The RSPB was founded in 1889, and moved to the UK headquarters at Sandy, Bedfordshire in 1961. There is a network of three national and nine regional offices. It has over 1,300 staff and one million members. The RSPB works with decision makers on behalf of birds and the environment, shares expertise and knowledge with young and old, tackles wildlife crime, works with landowners and farmers to help countryside birds, and researches wildlife problems and promotes practical solutions. It protects, restores and manages a network of over 200 nature reserves covering over 130,000 hectares. The RSPB also works internationally through the BirdLife International partnership.
