UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre

UNEP WCMCThe UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre is the biodiversity information and assessment arm of the United Nations Environment Programme. It is a not-for-profit intergovernmental organisation. UNEP-WCMC provides objective, science-based products and services that include ecosystem and species assessments, support for implementation of environmental agreements, regional and global biodiversity information, research on threats and impacts, and development of indicators and future scenarios for the living world. We specialise in communication with policy-makers and the wider public, capacity-building for information management, and support for education. Our membership of the UNEP family links us to an international network of partners and data providers. The Centre’s mission is addressed through three objectives: to provide early warning and assessment of emerging challenges in biodiversity conservation and sustainable management; to support the development and implementation of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and programmes that promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable management; and to enhance access to expertise, tools, techniques and information for public awareness, education, capacity-building and cross-sectoral cooperation.
